Homemade First Grade

Okay, I am linking up with a new linky party. I have found that this is a good way to get others to see your blog and hear what you have to share with the world. So go over to Step into 2nd Grade and link up to Tell Me More!

1. My favorite movie is "The Wizard of Oz". I used to drive my mom crazy and watch it every time it came on.

2. I am a Krispy Kreme donut junkie. I love those things (especially when the hot sign is on). My car just automatically drives in.

3. I love to dance. I mean break it down. I love to pop and lock but won't do it in front of anyone but my kids. (No pic of this)

4. Pickled corn is my favorite food. LOVE IT

5. I was suppose to marry Patrick Swayze and become a ballerina according to my senior friends. Didn't happen.

6. I was in love with Bo Duke!

It's okay my husband loved Daisy Duke, the new one and the old one.

Caring and Sharing Award

I have created a new award for teacher blogs. It is called the caring and sharing award. I have created this award, because I have seen so many great blogs and advice for teachers.I believe that these teachers deserve some recognition.

Click here for the rules RULES

My first nominees of this award are:

Primary Possibilities

First Grade Parade

Teaching Chick

The Teacher Wife

I am linking up with The Teacher Wife linky party. My top 5 picture books. What! I can only choose 5. Well okay, I probably have a million favorites because I am a book LOVER.

This book is hilarious, the kids love it and I love doing the voice of Braid Beard.

Another book that I love to read. This book is so much fun to do the voices. I might do a drama about this one.

This is a Christmas must. I met Gloria Houston and she is a very neat person. I love her writing. I can not read this without tearing up.

This book is such a beautiful book. The story is wonderful and the pictures are fantastic.

I remember this book from my childhood. It is one of those books that you take with you. The imagination factor is something many of my students are missing. I love to read and share this book because it meant so much to me as a child.

Totally Terrific Teaching is hosting a linky party about grading.

I can not stand grading. This is a downfall of mine and I pledge to do better this year. I want to be better organized and self disciplined to get this done. I use percentages to grade papers. This is the policy that our county uses. I do my spelling tests a little different though. I give the test by calling out the words first and then I collect those and give a multiple choice test. I give 1 point for each word correctly on the multiple choice and I add this to the other test. This helps me know if they can read the word. I really like what Michelle at Teach 123 had to say about homework grades and giving them points for having their name and other things listed. This trains them to put their name on their papers, which we all know we as teachers get so frustrated with. Go over and link up with Totally Terrific Teaching and share your grading strategies.

I hope this gives you some ideas!

So go download it.

Well it is certainly hot enough in Murphy, NC today. I keep thinking about all the things I need to do and how much time I have to do it in. School starts August 1st for us teachers. Well I have made a few more sight word sticker books that you can get below. I also have been buying things at The Dollar Tree which I love very much. I got lots of borders, magnets, stickers, and more.

Things have cooled down here in NC thank the Lord. I have been busy this summer working in summer school. We are using a pirate theme for the summer and the kids are having fun. We are working on the reader's theater for the book
How I Became a Pirate
by David Shannon.
We are working on making a ship and costumes. I have created a pirate sight word game for students you can get for free.
Pirate Sight Word Game
Go to Oh' Boy 4th Grade to link up! Another linky party link up here to share what music you use in the classroom. I work at a brain based school and part of our everyday music is baroque music. Brain researchers have learned that if this type of music is played at a quiet level that both the left and right brain are engaged! When we have 3 minute dance parties to give the kids a break I like to play kidz bop. We also do Just Dance for kidz on You Tube.
