Totally Terrific Teaching is hosting a linky party about grading.

I can not stand grading. This is a downfall of mine and I pledge to do better this year. I want to be better organized and self disciplined to get this done. I use percentages to grade papers. This is the policy that our county uses. I do my spelling tests a little different though. I give the test by calling out the words first and then I collect those and give a multiple choice test. I give 1 point for each word correctly on the multiple choice and I add this to the other test. This helps me know if they can read the word. I really like what Michelle at Teach 123 had to say about homework grades and giving them points for having their name and other things listed. This trains them to put their name on their papers, which we all know we as teachers get so frustrated with. Go over and link up with Totally Terrific Teaching and share your grading strategies.

I hope this gives you some ideas!

  1. I like the idea of the multiple choice test. Do you put the score for that on their reading grade?

Thanks for joining my linky party. I just followed you.

  2. I only use it for spelling but I could give them a reading grade also.

  3. After years of teaching Kinder when I looped up to 1st grading was the hardest thing for me to get used to. I had a hard time coming up with assessments that were fair for everyone. I would differentiate things like spelling, but it was just so time-consuming to keep up with. I learned a lot though-I think I would better at it next time! :)

  4. I have a hard time grading things like putting a name on a paper. A grade is supposed to reflect if a child has met a standard or not. We use E (exceeds the standard), S(Satisfies or meets the standard), and N (Does Not Meet standard) so the parents gets a very accurate view of where their child is. We have been using the common core standards to it is very clear when a child has exceeded, met, or not met their standard.

Thanks for sharing this linky party! I hadn't seen it yet! I am your newest follower :)
